Great review of the audio edition of Two Trickster Tales
It’s nice to start the new year with a great review, this time of the audio book edition of Two Trickster Tales from Russia, reviewed by Sue Bursztynski on The Great Raven and also for January Magazine. Below is an extract, with the full text here.
..This is a delightful version of the print book, narrated by Xavier Masson-Leach, with incidental music and sound effects by Xavier and Bevis Masson-Leach.
In the first story, Masha And The Bear, the grumpy bear is given a strong Russian accent, while the characters in The Rooster With The Golden Crest speak like American hillbillies, with appropriate – and charming – music for both. The whole thing goes for about 14 minutes, but since children tend to have short attention spans anyway, it may be just the thing to play before bedtime. It reminds me a little of a version of Peter And The Wolf I received for review some years ago.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to everyone, and a big thank you to all our supporters for helping to make our launch year such a success! 2014 promises to be a fantastic year for us, with three new titles in the works: Two Selkie Stories from Scotland, retold by Kate Forsyth and illustrated by Fiona McDonald(May); Two Tales of Twins from Ancient Greece and Rome, retold by Ursula Dubosarsky and illustrated by David Allan(September); and a special publication, the Once Upon a Christmas Annual, edited and compiled by Beattie Alvarez, an illustrated collection featuring stories, poems, memoirs, recipes and more from many different authors(November). Meanwhile, our launch title, Two Trickster Tales from Russia, is doing very well, and has garnered great reviews. Just a reminder that the audio book of the same title, beautifully interpreted by the talented crew at Sounds Like Books, is now out, too, and available at www.christmaspressaudio.bandcamp.com

The audio book edition of Two Trickster Tales from Russia is here now! It’s a wonderful creation from new start-up producer, Sounds Like Books: lively, funny, entertaining, with great incidental music and sound effects, and the complete text of the two stories in the book: Masha and the Bear and The Rooster with the Golden Crest.
It is available on CD initially, and then later as a digital audio book. The CD features full colour print on the wraparound cover and the disc itself, and all information on the production.
